The terror attacks in Pathankot targeted India’s development and the recently revived engagement between India and Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the prime mover behind the peace process, has sent a strong message cross, saying enemies of India’s development won’t succeed. “Enemies of humanity can’t see India develop, such elements attacked in Pathankot but our forces did not let them succeed,” Mr Modi said. The attack took place in the wee hours of January 2 when a group of 4-5 gunmen stormed the Indian airbase in Pathankot which is close to the Pakistan border. Four terrorists and six soldiers were killed during the encounter between the terrorists and armed forces. The attacks came a week after Mr Modi visited Lahore, resuming the comprehensive bilateral dialogue between the two countries. “India’s security forces are more than capable to deal with any challenges and will give a befitting reply to those who attack her sovereignty.” Paying tribute to the soldiers, Mr Modi said: “In Pathankot today, our security forces once again demonstrated their valour. I salute their sacrifice.” Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh joined in Mr Modi in condemnation of the Pathankot terror attack. “Any error attack on the Indian soil will be given a befitting reply,” Mr Singh said.
