It was a dark Sunday for Pakistan.  A suicide bomber struck the heart of Lahore killing at least 56 people, mostly women and children, on March 27.  A bomb blast occurred in the parking space of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, located in Iqbal Town area of Lahore. Pakistan’s army has launched counter-terror offensive in the Northern Waziristan in recent months to combat terror groups in the region. While there has been no official confirmation so far on who is responsible for the terror attacks, the Taliban, which has stepped up its activities, is suspected to be behind the attack. The security personnel have combed the area and have launched a search operation in and around the park. Chief Minister of Punjab province Shahbaz Sharif has condemned the blast. He has ordered officials to ensure that all possible treatment is given to the injured. The attack comes just three days prior to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Washington DC to attend the Nuclear Security Summit where he is also expected to meet India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
