Swaraj ranked as most accessible minister on Twitter

The government has ranked its ministers on the basis of how promptly and efficiently they respond to people’s requests on Twitter. The survey, reportedly conducted by Prime Minister’s Office, ranked India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as the most accessible minister on twitter. Mr Modi is well-known for his use of social media and has the third-highest number of Twitter followers in India. Mrs Swaraj was rated as the top performing minister for prompt responses to public grievances on the social media platform. Mrs Swaraj had helped stranded passengers overseas immediately and responded to other crises of similar nature. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was ranked second in the list. He was appreciated for quick responses to address problems of rail travel online. Mr Prabhu’s Twitter handle has proved to be a one-stop redressal mechanism for passengers of Indian Railways and he has helped many passengers across the country at a time of distress. Both Mr Prabhu and Mrs Swaraj have helped people out of sticky situations in the country and abroad based on their pleas for help on Twitter. Minister of state for coal, power, and renewable energy Piyush Goyal was ranked third followed by Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma at fourth. Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha was ranked at fifth position. According to unnamed officials, the survey was carried out after Mr Modi, during a meeting in January, asked all his cabinet members with direct responsibilities to the public to follow Mr Prabhu’s lead.
