The 70th anniversary of the India-China diplomatic relations is set to have a musical start in 2020 with a mesmerizing performance by the world-acclaimed China Oriental Song and Dance Troupe in Delhi on January 10. The dance-drama entitled “The Splendour of China” will be staged at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi ahead of the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival. The spectacular performance will also have notes of India as it will also include some popular Bollywood songs, which are becoming a rage in China.
The Splendour of China is like a colourful flowing poem as well as a moving painting that captures various facets of Chinese culture, said an introductory note published in the latest edition of “News from China-China-India Review,” the official magazine of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in India. The musical will also include Indian songs like Mein Awara Hoon, said Zhang Jianxin, Cultural Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi. The Hindi-speaking Chinese diplomat underlined the need for greater mutual appreciation of each other’s culture by the people of China and India and alluded to the rising popularity of Indian dance and music in his country. “Yoga, Bollywood and Indian music are becoming very popular in China. Indian people also need to be more aware of Chinese culture,” he said. 
To mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China in 2020, the two countries are planning to host 35 events each over the next few months. Crystallising the essence of traditional Chinese culture spanning 5000 years, The Splendour of China is a unique dance show that integrates profound Chinese spirit and showcases a dynamic, vibrant and colourful nation from the perspective of the Chinese people to the world. The show has been created on the basis of colours of white-and-blue porcelain, tea ceremony, bamboo, calligraphy, painting and traditional Chinese medicine which represent different facets of traditional Chinese culture. China Oriental Song and Dance Troupe has performed in more than eighty countries spanning five continents, and is returning to perform in India after a gap of two decades. The iconic group acts as a cultural ambassador of China and seeks to inherit and carry forward the China oriental artistic spirit and characteristics of “inclusiveness of fine Chinese and foreign cultures, richness of artistic expression, adaptability of advancing with the times” accumulated by generations of artists.
