India’s BRICS Sherpa, Secretary (ER) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs

Dammu Ravi is a distinguished 1989‑batch Indian Foreign Service officer, currently serving as Secretary (Economic Relations) at India’s Ministry of External Affairs. In this capacity, he spearheads India’s external economic diplomacy—overseeing global trade negotiations, development partnerships, and multilateral economic engagements. A seasoned professional, Mr. Ravi has served in Indian missions across Mexico, Cuba, and Brussels, and held key roles within the MEA and Commerce Ministry (2001–2020). Notably, he was India’s chief negotiator for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and has represented India at G20 Development Ministers’ meetings, advocating for sustainable development and global South cooperation

He holds an M.A. in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University and has authored research on India’s export strategies and agricultural market reforms. In addition to his formal duties, Secretary Ravi frequently engages in high‑level diplomatic forums—such as the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and key Indonesia‑India‑Africa summits—where he has emphasized shared development agendas across the Global South
