PM Modi connects to Indian workers in Qatar

Connecting with Indian workers in Qatar, home to around 72,000 Indians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to address issues raised by them and underlined that the “global goodwill” generated by Indians abroad is country’s biggest international reserve currency. “My first program in Doha is meeting you all,” the prime minister told blue-collar Indian workers at a camp in Downtown Doha on June 4. “When someone from our nation comes, who speaks our language, knows of our land, we want to ask them how they are, know them,” he said warmly. Thanking the doctors in Doha for their support and contribution, he said: “Sometimes loneliness is a disease. When someone asks how we are, we feel better. But when someone who speaks our language asks us that, half the loneliness goes away.” Toasting the spirit of Indian workers Emphasising on India’s image overseas, Mr Modi said that it is not formed on the basis of how the Indian embassy in a certain country works but based on Indians everywhere around the world.  “This global goodwill is the biggest international reserve currency,” Mr Modi said. Diaspora outreach has acquired a new salience in India’s diplomatic outreach under Mr Modi’s watch. Mr Modi underlined that he is aware of the problems being faced by the Indian workers in Doha and assured that he will work to his best extent to help the workers working in Doha. “If you have some issues on changing some rules and regulations, I will work with you all to bring about these changes,” he added. Some of the workers became emotional after meeting the prime minister and said that they felt it was like meeting a member of the family.
