South Africa will host the 20th G20 summit in Johannesburg, completing the first cycle of summits of the world’s most advanced economies. The leaders’ meeting in Johannesburg will be the first G20 summit in the African continent and the fourth summit to be hosted by a country of the Global South in quick succession, thereby putting the spotlight on the growing importance of the Global South in the G20 agenda. To mark the 20th anniversary of the G20 summits, Centre for Global India Insights, a think tank focused on global affairs, in partnership with the High Commission of South Africa in New Delhi, will organise a Panel Discussion on “G20@20: Africa’s Moment – The Once and Future World Order” at Lecture Hall 2, India International Centre Annexe on November 12, 2025 (6-8 pm).

Panel Discussion on G20@20

The panel discussion has been conceived and planned to generate informed discussion and ideas for strengthening the G20 as a premier forum for global peace and economic stability. The panel discussion will reinforce the review of the G20@20 initiated by South Africa’s presidency.

Key Objectives

  • To review the successes and failures of the first cycle of G20 summits and to map the way forward
  • Generating concrete suggestions for rejuvenating multilateralism which is currently under severe stress
  • Recommendations for ensuring that the developmental commitments made over the first cycle of the G20 presidencies are carried forward beyond 2026
  • How to keep the focus on Africa and Global South under the next 20 G20 summits
  • Ideas for strengthening G20 to shape an inclusive and representative international order
