In Amb. Saran’s assessment, the students’ protests in Nepal constituted a revolt against massive corruption and nepotism and has paved the way for a generational change in leadership. “There has been endemic corruption. One of the reasons why there was such a reaction amongst the young people that they were suffering, not having jobs, not having employment and at the same time, the sons and daughters of the leaders were leading glamorous lives and flaunting expensive clothes. And expensive holidays. This is why they have this term, ‘Nepo Baby.’”
“This is a generational change, which we are seeing, because this is a generation of young people, who are far more connected with each other, far more aware what is happening in the world. They are using social media not only for entertainment, but also for conversing with each other, sharing views with each other and mobilizing opinion,” said Amb. Saran.
