Amid clouds of uncertainty created by the Israel-Hamas war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has struck an optimistic note about the future of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) and invited investors from around the world to partake in its transformative journey. Speaking at the inauguration of the Global Maritime India Summit in Mumbai via videoconferencing, PM Modi underlined that India’s growing maritime capabilities are part of India’s development aspirations and unveiled ‘Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’ – a blueprint for the Indian Maritime blue economy. PM Modi said India took the lead at the G-20 summit in New Delhi to form a consensus on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC). The US, Israel, Saudi Arabia are among key partners of this transformational regional connectivity initiative. “Very few countries are blessed with development, demography, democracy and demand,” Mr Modi said as he invited global investors to be part of India’s growth journey. He said whenever India’s maritime capabilities have been strong in history, the country and the world have benefitted from it, and added that his government has been working to strengthen the maritime sector in the last 9-10 years.
Alluding to the dark days of the Covid-19 pandemic, PM Modi underlined that the world is looking towards India with new aspirations. He stressed that India’s economy is constantly strengthening in a world dealing with economic crisis, and the day is not far when India will become one of the top 3 economies in the world. Underscoring the role of sea routes in global trade, Mr Modi emphasized the need for a reliable global supply chain in the post-Corona world.
