India, China foreign ministers meet to resolve border standoff

In a bid to revive stalled engagement, the foreign ministers of India and China held talks in New Delhi on March 25 that focused on ways to resolve nearly a year-old standoff between the troops of the two countries in Ladakh. India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi at the stately Hyderabad House and conveyed the  urgent need to restore peace and tranquility in border areas by ending the Ladakh impasse. This is the highest level of engagement between the two countries since a deadly border clash in 2020 stalled dialogue between the two Asian neighbours. Mr Wang touched down in New Delhi on March 14 night after intense speculation about his visit, with both sides maintaining studious silence on it till his arrival in the Indian capital. Earlier in the day, Mr Wang Yi first met with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and  discussed They discussed the border row and the geopolitical implications of the Ukraine war. India will push for early and complete disengagement in disputed areas in Line of Actual Control in Ladakh before as a prerequisite for normalisation of relations.
