Ahead of Prime Minister       Narendra Modi’s visit to the US to attend the United Nations General Assembly, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has upped the ante and asserted that Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) is a part of India and New Delhi expects to have physical jurisdiction over it one day. Mr Jaishankar has also set India’s narrative on Kashmir days before the leaders of India and Pakistan speak at the UNGA on September 27, by underlining that there is no need to “worry” beyond a point about what people will say on Kashmir. Responding to questions at a press conference on the first 100 days of the second edition of the Modi-led NDA government, Mr Jaishankar said: “Our position has, is and will always be very clear on PoK, that it is part of India and we expect one day we will have physical jurisdiction over it.” This is a clear message to Pakistan that India will make sure that Pakistan’s twisted narrative on the recent changes in Jammu and Kashmir will be countered forcefully among the international community and during various engagements of PM Modi at the UNGA.
